Turf Talk From The Supentendent

Members,

Please be cognizant of parking at least thirty feet from the golf greens or in the rough along the green surrounds as to not compact the green surrounds and approaches. Compaction is a real issue on number three from the tees to the fairway, please route to the left side of the ladies’ tee box or the right side far rough on this hole to minimize that compaction. Please remain diligent where you park and drive and if you see areas that are compacted or wet please reroute to an out of the way area near the tree lines as these areas are higher grass and will tolerate more cart traffic.

Please fill in your fairway and rough divots with the green or tan colored sand provided, once dormancy occurs, if you are in a private cart, please stop on number ten and grab a sand bottle or two so you can fill in your divots.  Additionally, please repair ball marks on the greens if you make one and perhaps another one that was left by someone else.

If our daily temperatures are expected to dip below fifteen degrees for a prolonged period which is typically four or more hours, we will be utilizing specially made cover tarps for our front nine greens. If this occurs, we will send out a daily update with the pertinent information so, you the golfer can plan accordingly.

Beginning at the end of January or by Valentines Day at the latest I will be spraying pre-emergent herbicide for spring and summer weeds. We will be closing each nine down when we spray on that day to allow for watering in of the chemical behind the pre-emergent. I will let you know the schedule as it gets closer, the determinant will be daytime temperatures and potential for rain.

Additionally, I will be spraying periodically for pop up Poa Annua between now and spring green up to minimize the seeding of the plant during the winter.

 Fairways and Greens,

 Mike
