Dear Members,
As I discussed in the April newsletter, the greens were going to be ready to be stripped on May 1st , the weather has cooperated, and we will be able to start on the 29th of April. Signet Golf Associates will begin stripping all the grass from the greens as well as top layers of soil. The next two-three weeks will be preparing the greens for planting a much-anticipated Ultradwarf putting green grass called Tifeagle, it is low growing grass, which will provide years of enjoyment for the membership. There will be a lot of construction mobility on the front nine holes and ask you limit your travel as we will be working on ingresses and egresses as well as cart path work in several areas. In addition to the greens work, we will be stripping the sod from the black and gold/yellow tee tops on #1 and replacing it with shade tolerant grass type as those two tee boxes are shaded which prohibits effective growth.
I have noticed on two holes that someone is hitting multiple irons shots from approaches onto greens not in the normal play, #9 lower fairway to #10 green and #16 approach to #12 green specifically. Please refrain from this activity. The holes are designed to be played in order. There were numerous shots from each area, also please refill your divots as none of these were filled, which causes obvious problems.
As the renovation begins on the front 9, we will begin the process of vertigrooming, mowing, topdressing, rolling the back nine greens as they are thick and with the watering schedule, they will be slower than when they were a couple of weeks ago. This activity was conducted on Monday last season, however this season will be on Thursday as well as continued rolling practices on Saturday. So, this means the back nine greens will be rolled on Thursday and Saturday each week.
