TURF TALK FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

Back Nine Greens Update:

 Members,

Today is May twenty seventh and I am writing this June turf talk newsletter. Today marks the eighth full day since we sprigged the greens with Tif Eagle and I could not be more pleased with the progress. Unfortunately, we had a couple manageable washouts on Memorial Day evening, which had to be dealt with and on a good note, the sprigs held up very well. We are currently on a every fourth day fertilization schedule and will continue to push them for growth. We will continue to do the same through day fourteen and revaluate the sprigs to determine what our next course of action is. It is my desire to top-dress after we mow the first time which should be week number three. We are currently rolling the greens three times weekly and will stay on that schedule until we start mowing and then back off to twice weekly.

Every bit as exciting as new grass on the back nine greens are the way number sixteen pond and green surround is shaping up. It is coming along very nicely and if you have not seen sixteen lately, it is worth coming out and looking at it. Mark Calcutt is leading a special project, with Jamie Pope right by his side achieving amazing results for Coharie Country Club and its members. These two folks do fantastic work, and I am very thankful to them and all our volunteer members doing what they can to make Coharie great again.

For those of you who may not know, Jackie Parrish planted a beautiful Japanese Maple tree in the grass area behind number ten green complex and number eleven tee box, and it is beautiful! Another wonderful member that will remind us of all for years to come of the love and appreciation we have for our loved ones, gone but never forgotten.

 Respectfully,

 Mike
