AND SO IT BEGINS…
The greens conversion project to the convert the current grass to TifEagle is well underway. On April 28 Signet Golf Associates began stripping the greens and thirty-six inches around each green to determine where the original green is, to recapture it. They will re-sod the green collars in the middle of July. After the greens are stripped, they will begin the process of removing up to 4-6 inches of topsoil and replacing it with an appropriate mix of sand and soil by tilling to achieve proper topical runoff of rain and irrigation etc. At this time, the soil/sand will be floated (shaped), rolled and watered to a particular hardness.
Approximately 3 weeks later with the assistance of New Life Turf staff, our maintenance staff as well as member volunteers, we will sprig the greens (half of a day) and then New Life Turf will disc the sprigs into the ground. Immediately afterwards they will begin watering and fertilizing the greens and thus the grow-in begins. From this day, the 10-week process will begin.
There will be a 10-week grow-in period (this is very weather dependent). If all goes according to planned, the membership should be back on the greens during the week of August 4th at the latest. However, it could be as late as September, if the weather does not cooperate.
