Members,
The golf course is in good condition and getting better. The only issue has been the infestation of Mole Crickets in numerous fairways; those have been treated and will start growing over soon. Perhaps you haven’t noticed them or the small clumpy areas where they are burrowing. From a weed standpoint, we are in very good shape with some lingering Virginia Buttonweed and sedges, some goosegrass along the cart path edges primarily on nine, those will be treated very soon.
All the front nine green complexes have been widened to accommodate play due to the firmness of the greens; this will allow for more shot options if the ball rolls off the green. When more than a third of the grass blade has been cut off during mowing, regardless, if the grass is on greens, fairways or rough the grass will be yellow/brown until it grows out and starts greening up. In saying this from time to time when we are reshaping green surrounds, tee surrounds, or fairways, you may see the discoloration, this is normal and will not present a long-term issue. The good news is the shorter the grass, the faster it will green up.
As we have increased the frequency of mowing the golf course, it presents its own challenges, more mower/personnel presence, etc. We will try to stay out of the way so you can enjoy your round of golf in relative peace. Although we don’t live in a perfect world and there will be times, regrettable that work will be happening on a hole at some point, please allow the operators to see you and give them time to exit the playing area before hitting a golf ball, we/they are not practice targets, but the folks trying to do their best every day to maintain the golf course.
September should start off with the weather cooling down and perhaps an early fall which falls on September 22 nd . According to NOAA, we should see a warmer than normal winter. The winter of 2025 was our coldest in eleven years.
Please fill in your fairway and rough divots with sand provided, if you are in a private cart, please stop and grab a sand bottle or two so you can fill in those divots. Also, you can purchase them from Amazon for a nominal price. Additionally, please repair ball marks on the greens if you make one and perhaps another one that was left by someone else.
Fairways and Greens,
Mike
